Book Review : Havana Brown

Book Review : Havana Brown

Title- Havana Brown: A Joe Erickson Mystery
Author- Lynn-Steven Johanson

Starting with a murder scene, the book immediately hooks the reader. The atmosphere is tense and the writing makes you feel the danger in the air.

Joe Erickson stands out as a detective who relies heavily on instinct. He is sharp and determined but clearly struggling with the pressure. This makes the character easy to connect with.

The clues are cleverly placed, especially the odd detail about the cat hairs. It seems small but becomes very important later on in the story.

The ending gives a satisfying payoff with real suspense. The book blends mystery, emotion, and action in a smooth way.

Book Review : Last Train to Snarksville

Book Review : Last Train to Snarksville

Title - Last Train to Snarksville
Author - James Robinson, Jr

Last Train to Snarksville isn’t a nostalgic ride through Monkees lyrics—it’s a witty express trip through the mind of a writer who sees humor in the everyday absurdities of modern life. Across fifteen sharply observed vignettes, the author mines his past experiences and present-day irritations to deliver laughs that are as self-aware as they are sincere.

From the pop-culture parody of “(As Long as There’s Superman) They’ll Always Be Kryptonite” to the domestic paranoia of “Beware the Toaster,” and the sly nostalgia in “I Got Five on It,” each essay feels like a slice of real life filtered through a delightfully skewed lens. The humor ranges from observational to downright mischievous, with punchlines that often sneak up rather than shout.

What makes the collection stand out is the author’s ability to turn everyday grumbles—technology glitches, aging, social quirks—into small comedic triumphs.

Last Train to Snarksville is a quick but memorable ride, perfect for readers who appreciate humor that’s both clever and relatable. Fans of David Sedaris or Bill Bryson’s lighter essays will feel right at home aboard this snarky and heartfelt journey.
