Title- Twenty-Three Minutes: A Howard Hamilton Ride-Along
Author- J.C. De Ladurantey
Rating- 5/5
Twenty-Three Minutes is the kind of book that instantly makes you feel like you are right there beside Officer Howard Hamilton, riding through the streets and witnessing everything unfold in real time. From the very first page, I felt pulled into his world, not just as a police officer, but as a husband, father, and a man trying to balance duty with family. That personal side of Howard made him feel incredibly real and easy to connect with.
What I personally loved most was how the story does not focus only on crime and investigations. It also beautifully captures the everyday struggles behind the badge. Howard’s concern for his family, his career ambitions, and the emotional weight of seeing his daughter caught in a dangerous situation gave the story so much heart. It felt less like a typical police thriller and more like stepping into someone’s life.
The mystery and suspense are handled really well. Every new issue, from the suspicious suicide case to the drug cartel angle, keeps adding layers to the story. Just when I thought Howard had enough on his plate, something bigger came along. The pacing keeps the pages turning, and I genuinely wanted to know how he was going to manage everything without losing himself.
For me, this book stands out because it mixes action with emotion in a very natural way. It is gripping, realistic, and deeply human. If you enjoy crime fiction with a strong personal storyline, this one is definitely worth reading.
Thanks for reading
