About the author -
Tomson lives in Dubai and works as a director at a top-tier management consulting firm. He has completed his MBA from Loyola college, Chennai and is a professional management accountant. Tomson is married to Cini, and they have an adorable daughter, Lea.
This is his second book. The first one is a collection of short stories titled 'Stories of Work,Life and the Balance in Between'.

Interview -

1.     Tell me something about yourself?

Like most Mallus, I am also based in the Gulf (Dubai) along with my family.
I am a Management Consultant by profession. My field of expertise are banking technology and post-merger integration.
Storytelling is my Ikegai and writing is the byproduct of that. I am lucky to have the time and support to pursue this passion of mine.

2.     What is Alumni of the Year about?

Alumni of the Year is a contemporary fiction book that is packed with lots of love, action and drama to keep the readers entertained. Its set in the backdrop of a school reunion and is sure to bring back memories.

The book has been written with a lot of passion, firsthand experience and humor. I am sure you will enjoy reading the book.

3.     What prompted you to write the book?

The story is a about family, friendship and faith. All three are close to my heart.
I wrote this book because I believe that this is a story that deserves to be told and is very much applicable in this modern world.

4.    What does your family and friends think of your writing?

A writer requires a good support system to be motivated and to tell authentic stories.

For me, my biggest support has been my brother and wife. Three of us have taken ‘Alumni of the Year’ as an ‘Authorpreneurship’ venture. My wife and brother have supported me through all aspects of the book – from editing, cover suggestions to marketing.

My friends also have been an integral part of this journey. Most of the success of the books is attributed to the social media posts and the word of mouth promotions done by my friends.

I could have never reached this stage without the help of my friends and family.

Currently I am busy with promoting ‘Alumni of the Year’. The book has been doing great and receiving some amazing reviews.

I have already started working on the foundations for my next book. This is going to be a completely different from my previous books. It’s a new age story of entrepreneurship. As part of the research, I am planning to spend time with few real-life entrepreneurs to make the book more authentic.

Author Interview : Bhavani Krishna

Author Interview : Bhavani Krishna

Hello everyone,
Today I am going to introduce you to the poetess of 'Pristine Verses'.

About the poetess :
Bhavani Krishna is a freelancer based in Chennai. She holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Application after she quit her Medicine course. Her Dad is a poet and has written songs for Tamil movies (uncredited) and her Mom always motivated her to develop her writing skills. She is interested in reading short stories and poems for many years, and has decorated her book shelf with variety of books. She got the much-needed inspiration and motivation to write only because of her friends, mostly online ones. Their constant support urged her to write more and her poems got featured on many Instagram featuring pages. Her poems are published in 5 anthologies including Love Sparks 1 & 2 and Dear Future Soulmate under Raindrops Publishers. She is interested in learning new things and in her free time makes craft works.

Interview :
1) Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

A: I’m born and brought up in Chennai in a middle-class family. Education is the major priority in my family and after completing my graduation I did various jobs but was never really satisfied with what I did. And then poetry found me!

2) When did you start writing and what do you think attracted you to poetry?

A: The thoughts I write now were once expressed to people, verbally! I never documented my thoughts. Maybe I felt it’s not worthy enough to write them! One fine day, I wrote some 4 lines about a dream I had during my nap and that’s the beginning. From then, I continued my writing journey.

I always loved poems in my mother tongue Tamil. But for expressing myself I chose English. My dad is also a writer but I got inspired by two people whom I havent met in my real life. My inspiration - Vikas Khanna and mentor/friend - Shilpa Goel.

3) When did you think you were a poetess?

A: Still I didn’t get that feeling! My friends used to remind me that I’m a poetess now! In my opinion, I became a poetess after people accepted me as one!

4) As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

A: There’s a poem regarding this in my poetry book ‘Pristine Verses’. I wanted to be a teacher. But that didn’t happen.

5) What poets did you enjoy reading as a child?

A: I don’t know how many of them reading this will be aware of the famous Tamil poet and freedom fighter ‘Bharathiyar’. His poems always focused on freedom of women and women empowerment. I got deeply inspired by his words and among English poets, poetry book by Shakespeare was the first book I borrowed from the library! Though it’s complex, I loved it.

But the poem ‘The Road not taken’ by Robert Frost created a great impact on my life. It taught me to look life differently. I still visualise two roads in my mind whenever I need to decide on something.

6) What motivated you to go on to focus on a career in writing?

A: Confidence! I think a lot before doing something. But with writing as my profession, I didn’t think much. I somehow felt that it will work. Gut feeling, maybe!

7) Tell me something about your book 'Pristine verses '.

A: After a big round of emotional turmoil, Pristine Verses happened! Thankfully I had some supporters, well wishers and great guidance from my publisher - Bernard D’sa. Also blessings and love from my dear ones. Never in my dreams I thought of publishing a book. But I did. It is a tiring process and it drains you completely. But you’ll never regret! That’s the beauty of it. Publishing a book in my name is nothing less than a miracle.

8) What do you like to do when you are not writing?

A: I used to search for many things related to arts and crafts. The interest keeps on changing from paper crafts to calligraphy to painting... Once I’m done with one thing, I move to another and the search continues.

9) What's the best experience you've gained through your writing?

A: Likes and followers depends on time! A good post might go unnoticed. But what we write in last moment gets some major attention. So never lose hope. Keep writing and appreciation will follow. Never write for appreciation, that won’t work.

10) How did you get started as a poet? How do your poems develop? Please guide us through the stages of a poem.

A: I opened a poetry account on Instagram to get connected with readers and fellow writers. I write whatever I feel. It will be apt to say that I type whatever I feel because most often I use the notes app on my phone to save my thoughts.

If I chose to share it to the world, I’ll check for grammar, improvise the wordings if needed, then post it.

I have been a part of some anthologies. That gave me some idea about books and publishing.

Development is, initially I used to write whatever I feel. It purely depends on my mood. Now I explore new topics and write on that.

Major development or milestone in this journey is publishing my debut poetry book ‘Pristine Verses’. Readers felt that the illustrations are as good as the poem. I spent many sleepless nights to create that and I’m glad that my work is being appreciated.

11) Tell us about your process: Pen and paper, computer, notebooks...how do you write?

A: As I said earlier, most often I type. But I love writing. So whenever my thoughts are blocked or I decide to write in detail on a specific topic, I sit with my favourite notebook and pen and allow my thoughts to flow.

You have the privilege to scribble, score out unwanted words and phrases while writing. That looks more real and the emotions are raw unlike the fancy edited ones on Instagram.

12) What do you see as the role of a poetess in modern-day society? Any message for your readers?

A: Be sensible and responsible. By following these two steps one can bring changes in themselves and also in the society.

Thanks for reading.

Author Interview : Namrata Gupta

Author Interview : Namrata Gupta

Hello everyone,
Today I am going to introduce you to the the author of 'A Silent Promise' and 'The Full Circle : Stumbling Upon A Sinful Mystery'.

Let's Start!

1)Tell me something about yourself.
I am the author of two published books, namely, A Silent Promise and The Full Circle: Stumbling Upon A Sinful Mystery. I’ve also written a Kindle Short Story titled One Wedding, Three Murders. I am a Science student turned thriller writer while working as a Deputy Manager at an MNC. I love travelling and exploring new places. Well, life has been fun till now.

2)Did you always want to become a writer?
I loved writing since I was a kid. I used to write poems and articles for national newspapers and school magazines. I loved English Literature. So I would say that it was the love for Literature and flights of fantasy, which writing allows you to have, that made me a writer. More than wanting to become a writer, it was this love that made me a writer.

3)As your book, A Silent Promise, completes 4 years this September, how do you feel? And what is the book about?
It feels great! I have received a lot of love from the readers for the book. It is extremely overwhelming when audience can literally feel what you express through words. Book anniversaries bring a lot of joy to life. And the fact that the book is still being loved after all these years is an achievement for me as an author.
A Silent Promise is about the journey of an eighteen year old college fresher, Avantika Sareen, who has faced a lot of emotional trouble in the past and is initially unable to keep up with it. Through a series of trials and tribulations, happiness and sorrows, unexpected events and mundane conversations, she regains a sense of who she is and what it means to be alive. She is betrayed by one of college friends, which comes as a shock to her and reinforces her belief that she is doomed when it comes to relationships. She engages in an absorbing journey of self-introspection.
Avantika comes across a person in her life who makes her see what life is in the true sense, in her professor, Keith Joseph. Keith Joseph suffers from a minor leg difficulty, which makes him walk with a limp. Avantika finds an unusual companion in him, who makes her realize that there is much greater happiness and sadness in the world than her own. Amidst all this, she is troubled by a nightmare which comes to haunt her over and over. She wishes it away, but cannot. Finally, on the day she experiences some of the most beautiful moments of her life, destiny lays bare a cruel plan. Avantika is left to question humanity, raises questions on the notions prevalent in society to turn them upside down and eventually seeks solace in fulfilling the promise she has made to Keith.

4)What inspired you to write this book?
Platonic love with purest emotions combined with the wild spirit of breaking free from existing social norms and patterns which come in the way of free love. The idea of finding oneself again after feeling that everything has been lost and life doesn’t have any meaning anymore, like in the case of Avantika from the book, made me write the book. Soul connections happen regardless of the boundaries that the physical world contains.
Avantika fulfils the promise she has made to Keith in her heart and his life purpose ultimately becomes hers. That’s the beauty of love. Unsaid words, deeply felt emotions, spiritual connection, shared life goals and raw emotions are what makes love the best feeling ever.

5)Both of your books are different from each other. Which genre you enjoyed writing the most?
Well, I can’t choose one genre. Both of them are unique in their own way. A Silent Promise has Romance as its genre. Romance brings out a lot of deep, latent, unexpressed, raw and heart touching emotions from my core, which serves as catharsis for me as well. Wounds have to be laid bare to get healed, isn’t it? It is a genre which is written straight from the heart.
And The Full Circle: Stumbling Upon A Sinful Mystery is a Romance Thriller. Writing my second book involved a lot of brainstorming. The book captures the story of a traveller, who on his journey to finding a ‘home’, ‘home’ in the spiritual sense of the word, becomes a part of various stories and helps people in his own way. Figuring out what he could help them with, creating different narratives around those situations and weaving them into the main narrative, was challenging for me, but at the same time it gave me immense satisfaction as a writer to have been able to do justice to such a task. Developing the characters of ‘The Full Circle’ required efforts. Zinnia’s is a complex character. She has had her own struggles to fight with. She is tough yet soft. She exhibits motherly care yet is a young girl at heart. This range in her character had to be charted out carefully. In the same manner, Jacqueline and Aditya too have had their own past. For Jacqueline, an entire emotional journey had to be given a closure and her character had to be reformed from an emotionally distraught girl to an empowered one. Aditya had to be showcased with fine degrees of empathy, understanding, maturity and kindness. All of this had to be done with precision.

6)Describe A Silent Promise in one line.
Soul feeding Platonic love with purest emotions in a rebellious setting, wanting to break free from existing social norms.

7)Are you planning other books ? How soon can your readers expect your next book ?
Yes, I am planning to write a Romance Tragedy and I am hoping it to be released by next year.

8)How has your journey as an author been so far?
I wrote my first book, A Silent Promise (2015), while I was pursuing my graduation from Hans Raj College, Delhi University. Being new to the field, finding an appropriate publishing house for my first book became a task. But once I did my homework for the first book, doing the same things for my second book seemed relatively easier. My second book, The Full Circle.. Stumbling Upon A Sinful Mystery got released last year itself.
It has been going great since the release of my first book. I was invited as a speaker to Literature Festivals, college events and book reading sessions. People around me acknowledge my efforts and are impressed by how far I have come till now. I get a lot of appreciation amongst different circles. Readers reach out to me regarding my books and I get overwhelmed by reading their responses to my stories. It is amazing how a work of fiction can move people so much.
I believe that I still have miles to go. I have to write a lot of books. I am motivated to do that every time I receive a mail regarding my work. I have to reach out to more people, influence more lives and inspire more people to create a better world for themselves. There are still a lot of stories waiting to be told. I like to experiment with different ideas so I would try that repetition of story lines never becomes a part of my books.

9)Who is your favorite Indian and foreign author?
Amitav Ghosh is my favorite Indian author. I love the Bronte Sisters as foreign authors.

10)Any message for your readers?
It’s your love that keeps me going. I’ll always strive to give my best so that I don’t disappoint you. Thank you so much for all the messages and appreciating my work. I’m always open to feedbacks from all of you. Just a ping away.

Thanks for reading.
